Rose Acropora millepora Colony

Rose Acropora millepora Colony

Pictured above is another one of my favorites, the rose colored Acropora millepora. The deep red and elongated polyps give this coral a beautiful fuzzy red appearance that isn’t overly abundant in reef aquaria. Typically, blue and green corals dominate the reef scene, but red corals made a big comeback in recent years with the release of the ORA Red Planet and the rare Strawberry Shortcake Acro. The particular individual colony pictured above pales in comparison to those amazing acros, but it a good looking coral nonetheless.

Green Torch Coral (Euphyllia glabresens)

Green Torch Coral (Euphyllia glabresens)

Pictured above is a Green Torch Coral (Euphyllia glabresens) with extremely long tentacles. Like other Euphyllids, this coral has a very distinct fleshy polyp that sits atop a hard calcium-based skeleton. It’s the ultimate blend of flowy and hard coral, and yet another one of my favorites. I love this image so much, in fact, that it serves as the background image for a lot of my gadgets.

Neon Orange Pavona Maldivensis

Orange Pavona maldivensis

Kicking off our reboot in style, we’re feature one of our favorite images…a glowing orange Pavona maldivensis. This coral hasn’t been a commonly seen species in most reef aquaria, but it’s popularity is on the rise thanks to gorgeous individuals like the one seen above. Unlike other members Pavona species, this one grows in a plate-like structure that has a striking resemblance to many Montipora coral.

The AquariumPix Photoblog Reboot

After starting the AquariumPix photoblog a couple of years ago and letting it sit idly by as we focused our attentions on its sister site The AquaNerd Blog, we’ve decided to give our photo heavy site a complete overhaul and start over. We’ve ditched the old theme in favor of one that’s not only simpler, but also highlights our image better. We’ve also cut out all of the old posts and images so that we could approach the site with a fresh perspective and all new images. We’re very exicited to get this reboot underway, and hope that you’ll follow us along for the ride.
